Wheaten Terrier

Lesley and I watched a Dogs 101 episode the other day that featured the Wheaten Terrier. It was voted the No. 1 apartment dog in America and apparently is one of the most popular dogs in New York City for that reason. They also said it's a perfect dog for a couple because it's a "fluffy" dog for a girl and a pretty cool dog for a guy.

Wheaton Terrier: Fluffy+Awesome=Winner

Size: 30-45 lbs
Life expectancy: 12-15 years
Grooming: Frequent combing
Shedding: Not a big shedder

Pros
Happy and playful
Puppy attitude throughout life
Seldom bark without reason
Great apartment dog

Cons
Doesn't do well with heat
Needs to be combed fairly regularly

What do you guys think? It looks like a pretty good dog. Leave your opinion in the comments and please vote on the poll on the right.

  3. Got a Wheaton puppy in January and could not be happier. This dog loves people, especially childern other dogs and is a constant source of entertainment. be aware though, this is a high energy dog and he needs to be outside running around for at least an hour a day in a fenced in area, otherwise he runs around the house like a maniac or finds something to chew on and he can destroy a cheap toy in minutes. Mine is fearless and will not hesitate to run in front of a moving car. He actually ran under a moving cement truck and thanks to his speed survived the incident unscathed. A fence went up right away and we are thankful he is still with us. when he is not running around, he becomes the sweetest lap dog ever!! If you have a place for him to get exercise and time to spend with him, GO FOR IT. This dog has exceeded my expectations in every catagory and I highly recommend this breed. Just to give you an idea of our puppies energy, we decided to name him Freddy " Mayhem" Finnegan.

  5. Our Wheaten's name is Rudy, he is 9 monthes old. Love him so much. Can have an attitude and he has a mind of his own. Can't believe how many people stop me when I am walking Rudy and tell me how cute he is. Rudy looks like a little bear before he is groomed and a little lamb after he is groomed.

  6. I have had 2 wheatens. They are the best dogs ever! They are a nice mid sized dog. I'm allergic to most dogs but these could sleep right next to me with no problems. Awesome dogs!
